Also known as a forehead lift, the browlift is a procedure designed to elevate and reshape the eyebrow region. As aging occurs, gravity causes the eyebrows and forehead to descend. As the eyebrows fall, this may contribute to a heaviness and hooded appearance to the upper eyelid resulting in a more tired appearance.
In the past, the browlift was performed by using a long incision that extended across the entire scalp. Today with modern techniques, a browlift can frequently be performed with lighted telescopes passed through small incisions. These incisions can frequently be hidden in the hair resulting in no visible scars. If there is a high forehead, and a shift of the hairline is of concern, then the incision can frequently be made just in front of the hairline so as not to raise or shift the hair position, this is termed a pretrichial browlift.
Although a browlift can be done as an isolated procedure, it can also be combined with a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) to fully rejuvenate the appearance of the upper face and forehead. This may also be performed in conjunction with a facelift.
Browlift surgery may be performed as an outpatient. Dressings and bandages are typically removed after 3-5 days following surgery. Bruising and swelling may last 7-10 days, and complete healing occurs over the next several weeks
