The calf augmentation consists in increasing the calf volume achieved by placing silicone implants through an incision at the level of the posterior fold, creating a pocket below the fibrous layer (aponeurosis) of the twin muscles.
It is usually indicated in cases of calf atrophy due to accidents, injuries or nervous sequels. It is also common in those women or men who have extremely thin legs and are in disproportion to their hips and thorax.
Calf augmentation through fat transfer is not recommended, because of the loose short-term results, even though some surgeons perform it.
Estimated surgery time: 2 to 3 hours.
Estimated recovery time: 8 to 10 days if initial recovery.
