Eyelid Surgery

Service Description

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure that corrects the excess skin and fat in the upper and lower eyelids, correcting the fall of the upper eyelids and puffiness or dark circles below, in order to rejuvenate the appearance of face.

It consists of a functional or cosmetic surgical procedure in order to remodel the upper or lower eyelid eliminating and / or repositioning excess tissue as well as strengthening the surrounding muscles and tendons. When there is a large amount of skin on the eyelid, the skin may hang over the eyelashes and cause loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause problems with activities such as driving or reading. In these circumstances, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to improve peripheral vision. Patients with less severe excess skin may perform a similar procedure for cosmetic reasons. The operation in the lower lid is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve the "bags" of the lower eyelids and reduce skin wrinkling. Since it is very common that when people reach age 40 eyelids fall by excess skin on them. This applies to both the top and the bottom. To all this we must add the presence of bags under the eyes (especially the lower ones) and even "ruffles" on many occasions. In fact, the problem of the bags (which are fat on the eyelids) can be found from an early age, as it can be inherited.

Blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural lines of the eyelids, such as the stripes on the upper and debajos the lashes in the lower or inner surface of the eyelid below. It is an outpatient surgery (also called day surgery) because it is not necessary that the patient remains hospitalized. Recovery is fast. The initiall swelling and bruising take one to two weeks to recover but it takes at least several months until the final result becomes stable. Depending on the scope of the procedure, the operation takes one to three hours to complete.
