Ear Surgery

Service Description

erformed through a strategically located incision in the groove behind the ear, the otoplasty aims to position the ears closest to the head and create cartilaginous folds that characterize this part of the body.

The “rotation” of the ear can be performed by removing a piece of cartilage from the auricular shell (concave part adjacent to the ear canal) or simply by using sutures. The folds are usually created through the weakening of the cartilage and molding with sutures to ensure the healing of the tissues in the correct position.

Aanesthesia

General anaesthesia when it comes to children or local anaesthesia, with or without sedation when the procedure is performed in adults.

Surgery time

Normally, the otoplasty lasts about 90-120 minutes (bilateral) or 60 minutes (unilateral).

Length of hospital stay

The time varies from half a period to 1 day, depending on the type of anesthesia and the age of the patient, but usually 12-24 hours.

Postoperative evolution

In general, the patient has no pain. When there is that kind of intercurrence, common analgesic is used. In addition, small dressings are made for the protection of the scar. In children, especially, the ear is protected in the early days with a kind of elastic bandage, in order to avoid local trauma.

The recovery of plastic surgery of the ears

Patients undergoing otoplasty should remain in absolute rest for 2-3 days, always keeping the head elevated. The helmet dressing placed at the end of surgery may be removed after 1-3 days, and the patient should wear a bandage above the ears for 2-4 weeks.
