Nose Reshaping

Service Description

Rhinoplasty is the medical term used for a surgical procedure that aims to improve the nose. The possibilities of this surgery are: size correction of the nose in relation to the proportions of the face, the length of the nose or nasal profile, tip of nose, correction of the nostrils and nasal asymmetries.

The nose has a specific role in the process of respiration that must be maintained or improved after intervention, and its shape should be normal enough to pass unnoticed.

An operated nose must work properly, be proportional according to the whole person and specifically his face, the result obtained should be natural and not appear that it has been operated. Often the patient’s facial profile can improve with Rhinoplasty and also chin augmentation to give the face a more harmonious appearance.

It is very important to emphasize that all patients want a nose more symmetrical, but any patient, without exception, has a degree of asymmetry. The objective of surgery is to improve, not perfection.

Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, and may require admission to the clinic for a few hours or a day.

Normally, a rigid splint or moldable plastic bandage or plaster, which is removed within a week, is applied to prevent the swelling from altering the outcome. It should be noted that, once the dressing is removed, the nose will still be slightly swollen and it will be necessary to wait some time, which can vary from patient to patient, to see the final result.

Most patients of rhinoplasty surgery can perform their normal duties in one or two days, returning to school or sedentary work a week or so after surgery. But it will take several weeks before you recover completely. Dr. Ventura will give you specific instructions on how to gradually resume your normal activities.

Therefore, surgery is best indicated for:

-Adult patients, both men and women who want to improve the aesthetic and function of their nose.

-Patients that have reached the normal development of the nose, which occurs around the age of 15.

-Non smokers

-Individuals with clear objectives and within the real possibilities of the procedure, including being aware of its limitations.

You will be asked to sign a consent form to ensure that there was a full understanding about the procedure to be conducted and that you are aware of the possible and potential complications. Possible complications of this surgery include: accumulation of blood under the skin (skin), swelling (edema), infection, poor healing, loss of hair at the site of the incision, facial nerve injuries followed by facial asymmetry, areas with vascular suffering of the skin, areas with loss of sensitivity, thrombus formation and anesthetic complications.

After surgery you will wake up with healing dressings on the nose, whose function is to protect and provide mild local compression. A suction drain could also be made use of. After surgery you will be encouraged to flex and extend your feet, exercising the calves at least 20 times every hour when awake. In the following days, short walks every two hours for about 10 minutes are recomended. Care in relation to wound healing and dressing changes, returns, and the prescription of drugs needed, will be delivered by Dr. Ventura.
The intervention can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general, and the time spent at the health center may be only a few hours if done outpatient, or one day if you enter the clinic.

At first the feeling of swelling (edema), bruising and discomfort on the operated area is normal. The return to normal activities will be gradual, and according to the guidance of Dr. Ventura.
Some areas with lack of sensitivity and discreetly hardened in the region operated may occur and gradually improve in the months that follow. As the initial healing process takes about 5 to 10 days, stitches will only be removed after this period. The entire process takes several months and it is therefore necessary to maintain some specific care treatments that will be oriented by your plastic surgeon. The resulting scars are permanent and the final result depends on the individuality of each patient.
